Writers' Guidelines SCA will consider for publication well-written articles related to small boats and boating. Sailing or rowing adventures, boat modifications, design discussion--all are appropriate.
Our emphasis is on trailerable sailboats and micro cruisers, but we cover all wind and human-powered craft up to,
Our greatest need is for contributions to our "Places to Sail" column. These run to 2000 words, and describe various lakes, rivers and ocean sailing sites around the country (and occasionally Canada) appropriate to our readership. While we want a thorough description of the area, its sailing conditions, weather, fees, and other pertinent local information, we don't want a travelogue. There must be a small-boat sailing or rowing thread throughout the article. How do the unique conditions affect the small-boat sailor? What dangers must he be aware of? Where can he go and what can he do deep-draft boats cannot? How do prevailing weather or water conditions affect his small sailboat? We strongly suggest writers thoroughly peruse a copy of Small Craft Advisor, and our online articles, before submitting an article. A sample copy is available by sending $4.95 to: SCA PO Box 1343 Port Townsend, WA 98368 We reserve the option to edit for length, content, accuracy, clarity and basic grammar. Concise, specific writing is appreciated; it makes our job much easier. Electronic submissions preferred. We work in Macintosh but can open most PC docs.
